Welcome to Miss Vola's Fifth Grade Blog! This school year is really flying by! We have had so many activities this year. First, we had Jingles and her owner, Miss Sue, come visit on November 20. We learned all about service dogs and, particularly, what a therapy dog does. We enjoyed a Thanksgiving Feast with our First Grade Reading Buddies (Mr. Sweeney's class) on November 24. On December 11, we had earned 50 Panther Paws and our special class mascot, Bear, got to come visit.
After we got back from Winter Break, Mr. Bestwick, Mr. Callister and Mr. Geary, of the Ponce de Leon Lighthouse, came to visit and describe to us the life of Lighthouse Keeper's kids in the late 1800's. Then, on January 15, we went to the Central Florida Zoo for their Zoolab program. The students learned about the Keystone Species of Florida (gopher tortoises) and about all the organisms that live in a drop of water!
